Barefaced Politics

We love us some Obama... the man is fantastic to listen to. We are certainly NO on 8. That is just wrong. We like to keep our church and state separate... seems reasonable enough... but we generally stay out of politics... well at least we did...

It starts with a story.

On January 29th, 1919 the ratification of the 18th amendment to the U.S. Constitution was certified signaling the beginning of prohibition. This very important, yet tragic, legislation brought all the men home from the bars until December 5th, 1933 when the 21st amendment was passed, repealing the 19th amendment. Worthy of note is that no other amendment before or since has ever been repealed. So, why do we think the 18th and the 21st amendments are so important besides righting a clear wrong? They say sandwiches are made between the bread... or do they say that?

So, on January 29th, 1919 the amendment was passed banning the manufacture, sale, or transportation of intoxicating liquors within the United States a year later. Five months after the certification, on June 14, 1919... congress proposed that women (or rather people regardless of sex) should have the right to vote.

Another amendment wasn't passed until January 1933 cleaning up some of the nuances of the beginning and end of elected officials' terms... yet another reasonable thing to include in our governmental structure... and then amendment XXI was passed sending the men back to the bar later that year.

So I suppose it could have gone something like...

Women: I can't stand you being drunk all the time, voting and making laws and running around like idiots! This isn't the 1800s any more!

Men: uhhhhh

Women: Come home right now... no more scotch until you sober up and we can talk.

Men: scotch scotch scotch!

Women: Now that you are sober... we really need to vote. We're going to need just one more change to that constitution. Or no more scotch... or T&A for that matter.

Men: ok. Can I have a drink?

Women: No. You need to dry out. You've been drunk for almost 150 years.

Men: ok. Anything else.

Women: Ya. Now that I can vote, we should fix this whole thing where the president elect doesn't take office until March. I mean Lincoln had to wait months after he was elected to deal with the Civil War! Oh... and congress shouldn't have to meet in December every year... that means we have to have a lame duck session after every election. That is just stupid. The mandatory meeting should happen on the day when the new senators and congressmen take office. Let's make it January 3rd. Got it?!

Men: Ok.

Women: Jesus. Go back to the bar.

Men: I can't. Its illegal.

Women: We can fix that.

1st of Tribute Works Up

Barefaced is greatly inspired by artists from around the world. Their power of delivering messages is one that we aspire to have one day. In honor of these fine messengers we have started a tribute to the greats.

The first tribute goes to a idol of ours... Kinsey. He has been doing street art for decades and is one of those names that we all should know.

Check out his stuff here.
